The Gospel According to Francy (Francys evangelium)

Amanda Lind

“She is a double nature, fragile like an egg shell and hard as concrete. She can dread and worry for hours over a scratch in the car. And can with ease run over someone she thinks deserves it.”

Francy is a wife, mother and mafia boss. Not an easy combination. But she was raised to take over the family empire and has her own code of honor. The problems about being a good mother and give her children a normal life, and run Stockholm’s most powerful illegal organizations at the same time, is brought to a head when she is pulled into a full scale mafia war, which both demands all her attention and creates a deadly threat on her family.

The Gospel According to Francy is twisted and action filled with a realistic psychological depth. The associations to The Sopranos are impossible to miss, but this is in a genuine Swedish setting and the main character is a 35 year old mother of two. The knife is twisted another turn.

What does women’s liberation look like in the criminal world? What happens when you dress the typical male mafia cliché in women’s clothes? In The Gospel According to Francy the readers meet a new type of woman. Because Francy and her violent partner Little Marie are not like other women. They live in an exciting, brutal and partly very funny world. Be prepared to challenge your prehistoric reflexes from a time when women of literature only were frail and defenseless.

Yes, it is a true experience to come along when Francy ignores the taboos of human nature as if they were dry twigs on a walk in the park. Luckily there will be a sequel soon!

Reviews

"Everything is turned upside down in this gorgeous novel. Even though it is easy to read and humoristic it is keeping a very steady level of seriousness, when it comes to action and not the least when it comes to brutality."

Alt for damerne, Denmark

"The Gospel According to Francy is terrific fun, enthusiastic and very, very bloody. Pulp Fiction and The Godfather meets Bridget Jones and Desperate Housewives. I look forward to the next volume."

Weekendavisen

"Highly entertaining female action novel. Kill Bill-like cover – the story will continue, a promise – Yes."

Dansk lektørudtalelse

"The Gospel According to Francy is an exciting novel with lots of fast paced action, car chases and exciting twists in the story. There are also many gory scenes and picturesque descriptions of torture, which apparently is 'necessary' to maintain a thriving mafia business. But it is also a story about friendship despite all and difficult family relationships, as well as broken souls."

Bogblogger

"This is Swedish crime in a new way, the idea is really good and the characters are really rocking."

Kulturkikk

"An iconoclastic success, that holds itself in a delicate and very enjoyable balance."

Elle, France

"The Godfather meets Lisbeth Salander."
