The Spanish Staircase (Spanska trappan)

Birgitta Stenberg

When the Italian press wrote that the poet Paul Andersson "tried to commit suicide by throwing himself out of a first floor window", was that the whole truth? And Robert, who had poured a can of paraffin oil and set fire to the bed where Paul was sleeping, did he think that punishment was fair for what had taken place in the Spanish staircase?

And what was Gullan really up to, she with the idealistic paper's sharpest mind? Why was she trying to have her lover thrown into prison? And was little Angelica seduced by a Catholic priest? And Birgitta herself, did she know that she was employed and paid by the CIA during the course of a few years? Or was she just being naïve?
