There is no peace between Sweden and Norway and the people are suffering. The mighty Olof Skötkonung refuses to discuss peace with Norwegian King Olav Haraldsson, but the noblemen rebel and threaten to riot. They want Olof's daughter, Ingegerd, to be given away in marriage to Olav. The King's daughter could be the political bond that would encourage the countries stop fighting.


But Olof Skötkonung refuses to change his mind and sends Ingegerd to Rus to marry someone she never met.
