My Shadow (Min Skugga)
Christine Falkenland
When Rachel was fifteen she fell down from a tree by the road crossing. If the accident hadn’t crippled her, she could probably have married better. Everything would have been different. Now she is stuck on the windowsill looking out over the sea. Once she thought this island in the outer archipelago was beautiful. But that was long ago. Now she is lonely, imprisoned in this house but also in her own memories.
Maybe Rachel could have loved her husband if she had gotten the chance. But nothing has changed in the house by the harbor; it was as if time had stopped when George’s wife Viola died. Her taste and sense of order still animate the rooms. And George sleeps with her shadow beside him. Rachel understands she must win the trust of George’s young daughter Cornelia. Slowly she makes evil plans and moves carefully to her goal.
