A crime novel craftsman
Hans-Olov Öberg is more than a productive author. He is a true jack of all trades who has always had more projects going on than there are hours in a day. Next to writing crime novels he is also a publisher, jazz- and blues musician, author teacher, chronicle writer and a soccer coach. He also has a past in the financial markets and has worked both as a business writer, financial analyst and equity portfolio manager.
As a novelist Hans-Olov Öberg has previously written a number of crime novels and gotten most acknowledgements for his series about the financial journalist Micke Norell (Piratförlaget). He is a driven stylist and started his authorship to get an outlet for his love for creating expressions and phrases, but has in the last years more and more oriented on refining and reducing. Today his focus is on investigating people’s drive and different moral codes, at the same time as the reader gets to feel smart.
Now Hans-Olov Öberg is working on another big crime novel project – a new series which take place over three decades and in as many parts. In the first novel the readers meet twelve year old Elias Fagervik, who has gotten stuck in the middle of a murder story where a friend in the boy choir. Benny Modigh, detective inspector at the Västerås police department, is in charge of the investigation which points in many directions. The setting is a Swedish small town in the 70’s, and the author provides a number of perfect time markers. But also an intriguing plot with unexpected turns and a constant rise in excitement. It is quick, it is thrilling and hereby we send out a first class warning for stretch read.
In the upcoming books the readers will find out how life turns out for Elias and how he is affected by the events in the first book. The policeman Benny Modigh is there to. But everything doesn’t turn out as one can expect.
