Ida Kjellin

Modern adventures

Stories have always been important to Ida Kjellin. When she was little her father recorded her favorite books on tape, so that Ida could listen to them over and over again.

When she got older, it was clear to her she had to seek a profession where she could create her own worlds. Her career, however, took a detour over journalism. But after journalist school and a couple of years as a reporter Ida Kjellin admitted herself she was "a really bad journalist". She was simply more interested in the background stories than chasing after news. After a few years as a host for, and producer of, children’s television programs, she began writing TV series for the Swedish Television (SVT) and other channels. After courses in screen writing, both in Sweden and at the New York Film Academy, she began writing feature films, and working internationally as one of the writers of a German vampire TV series for children. Together with a colleague, she wrote The Secret of the Pirate’s Treasure, the 2014 annual Christmas drama for the SVT.

Ida Kjellin writes for both children and adults. Her characters may be ordinary but they often experience unusual events. Sometimes they end up in other worlds, sometimes the drama unfolds right where they are. It is always exciting, and there is always some sort of message to the viewers. In 2016 she debuted as a fiction author.
