Led by a Glance (Färdas på en blick)

Lotta Lundberg

In connection with an abortion, the world that upper secondary school teacher Laura has known falls apart. She takes off to Hungary, her second homeland that her parents fled from in 1956. Along the way she stops off in Vienna, where she gets to know diplomat couple Håkan and Marianne. A confusing, dramatic triangle ensues between them, and Laura stays for a couple of intense, summer months. Perhaps a love affair can help her find a real direction for her life. Or is she just a pawn in a sleazy game?

Led by a Glance is a strong, realistic story about longing and motherhood, about women’s sexuality, lust and infidelity. As in Lotta Lundberg’s debut novel, Let Happen, the main character’s search for identity and growth takes place through a relationship with another woman.

Reviews

"Lotta Lundberg’s writing gives evidence of experience and wisdom, and her voice is unquestionably original."
Upsala Nya tidning

"It’s interesting that Lotta Lundberg chooses to capture reserve with openness. She cuts straight across trendy, stuffy short stories by using everyday familiarity without for that matter conveying any dime a dozen answers."
 Expressen

"Ms. Lundberg has found the form for the desire she wants to portray. The words fall into place like pieces in a puzzle. That which is realistic finds new forms, at times bordering on poetry and offering giggly surprises. The language has been brought to a head and its accuracy creates identification."
Svenska Dagbladet
